Task Blastoff! (ThriveMind Planner Instructions)

Executive Function Supports: Task Initiation, Planning & Prioritization, Working Memory, Perseverance, Time Management

The Task Blastoff is your launchpad for doing the hard thing—the thing you keep avoiding, overthinking, or getting stuck on. Whether it’s a big goal or a basic chore, this section helps you break it down, get started, stay focused, and celebrate progress.

Why this feature exists

Many executive function struggles begin with ambiguity. If a task feels too big, too vague, or too draining, the brain freezes—or flees. Task Blastoff tackles that in two steps: first, it helps you deconstruct the task, then it gives you a motivating system for working through it in short, structured bursts.

Part 1: Task Breakdown Map

At the top, you’ll see one large rectangle where you can write the main task (e.g., “Clean the kitchen” or “Finish resume”).

Beneath it are two smaller rectangles—ideal for breaking the task into sub-tasks or components. Under each of these, there’s space for up to four mini-steps or micro-actions.

This layout mirrors how executive function works: we need to make invisible steps visible. By visually deconstructing a task, it becomes less threatening and more doable. This also reduces the working memory load, because you’re not holding all the pieces in your head.

Part 2: Pomodoro Progress Tracker

Below the breakdown map is your Pomodoro zone—a structured way to work in four focused time blocks, typically 25 minutes each (or whatever interval works for your brain).

Each Pomodoro has a checkbox so you can track your progress as you go:

  • Pomodoro 1
  • Pomodoro 2
  • Pomodoro 3
  • Pomodoro 4

At the bottom, there’s a Reward Box where you write in a small, satisfying motivator for completing the full set. It could be anything: a snack, a video break, a nap, stepping outside, or just checking off the task with pride.

The reward helps close the loop, reinforcing your effort and building positive emotional associations with follow-through.
